When you’re just starting out in the vending machine business, it’s easy to get bogged down in the little stuff. Don’t let over thinking get in your way of taking action. Vending isn’t rocket science, all you need to do is buy some machines, get them on location and service them regularly. Clearly not rocket science. Trust me when I say you will mistakes starting out and this is all part of the process. Even though vending is easy, like most thinks you can’t learn about it by reading a book. Until you actually start doing, it’s all theory. As long as you avoid the biz op vending scams, over priced machines, and don’t give a lot of money to a shady locator, you’ll be fine. Most of the mistakes you’ll make will only cost you a few hundred dollars and are just all part of the learning process.
These are a few things that I have learned:
Avoid cheap plastic machines. Not only do these machines look cheap but they break very easily. Besides, you want machines that business owners will feel good about displaying in their business. In a lot of cases you can find a good quality all metal machines for the same cost as a cheap plastic one.
Double head machines are the best bet. U turns and triple heads are just not the best choice for most locations. The beauty of double heads is that you also have the option of turning them into a single head or triple head giving you more options.
Watch and wait for the better deal. There are plenty of used vending machines for sale everyday online and in local newspapers, so you don’t need to worry about when the next deal will come along. I got a sweet deal on 30 double head Oak machines with stands fully assembled for $50 each. I paid twice as much as this in my first two buys. (I’m a slow learner)
So, don’t worry too much if you take a couple wrong steps when you’re just getting started, we all do it. Stay the course and you’ll be able to build a successful business in no time.
