It is important for candidates these days to place an importance on their resumes. With the volume of resumes being sent online through the online job boards, it is vital to have a well designed resume and cover letter that gets results. Many candidates falsely believe that once they have written their resume that they are done. The problem with that philosophy is that companies no longer hire a generalist. They want to hire specialist in their field. This requires you to have to re-write your resume to better target the position according to the job description that you are given.
There is a simple process on how to make a resume. Most people have writer’s block when trying to describe their experience. one of the best exercises you can do is to first have a brainstorming session before you ever choose to write your resume. Set a timer for 20 minutes and determine to not stop writing until the timer goes off. This will keep you motivated. Do not judge your ideas but put it down. Think of every job function and every accomplishment that you have had. Doing this exercise will help you to have plenty of content to draw from.
Some professionals need cover letter help as well. A cover letter should also be re-written for every position that you apply for. While you can keep some of the same content in place, you need to tailor it to the position you are applying for. In the second paragraph, save some room to copy and paste a few relevant bullet items from your resume. this will help your cover letter to appear better targeted. Make sure you list specifically why you want this position. Companies want to hire people who want to work for them. Lastly, never have more that three paragraphs to any cover letter.
