You Need To Take More Water As You Eat Your Favourite Foods

If we were to judge the importance of a nutrient by how long we can do without it, then water would obviously rank as the most important. You can only survive 8 to 10 days without drinking water at all, while it takes several weeks or even months to die from a lack of food. Water normally circulates through the blood and lymphatic systems in our bodies. It transports oxygen and all the nutrients obtained from the foods we eat to cells and removes wastes in form of the body urine and sweat. Water also plays a very important role of maintaining the natural balance between dissolved salts and water around and inside the body cells. Water provides important cushioning or lubrication of our joints and soft tissues. However, water doesn’t have any caloric value and is not an energy source at all. All the same, we must always include it in our diets because without it we could not digest or absorb the foods we eat or eliminate the body’s digestive system wastes.

Perhaps you may be aware of the fact that your body consists of at least 65 percent of water, and as a daily requirement for your health you should take about 8 to 10 cups to replenish the water your body loses each day. Water requirements for any person depend on the amount of urine and sweat lost daily. However, some conditions such as diarrhea or vomiting that lead to body dehydration increase water needs. Heavy physical exercises or body activities also require increased water intakes. Drinking other liquids that do not contain caffeine or alcohol can replenish water in your body. Caffeine and alcohol increase the urine output that in turn dehydrates your body. Many foods will also provide good sources of water. You can therefore increase the intakes of fruits and vegetables which contain 80 to 95 percent of water.
