Should You Visit A Chiropractor After an Auto Accident?

Head, neck and back injuries are some of the most common injuries resulting from auto accidents.  Of these injuries, whiplash is the most common injury by far.  It is caused most often in rear end collisions when you head snaps backward and forward like the end of a bullwhip when your body is jerked violently into motion and then just as violently to a stop.  It can result in injuries to your spine and back, areas which chiropractors are experts.  However, many people view chiropractors as somewhat of less than legitimate, and think the same about whiplash cases, can you actually visit one and expect to get money if you file auto accident claims with your insurance company?

The short answer is yes, but you have to use discretion.  Only go to licensed chiropractors, and if you want to make sure, get a recommendation from your doctor.  Immediately beginning treatment after the injury is one way to build a rock solid foundation around your claim so as soon after an accident as possible, go to a doctor or hospital to have your injuries examined and establish that you do indeed have whiplash injuries.  Once this is established, you should be free to go to a licensed chiropractor.

Chiropractors specialize in working with your back, spine, and other soft tissues in your body.  They use gentle manipulation to help restore you spine and neck to the natural position it was in before the accident.  Some can even specialize in car accidents and whiplash, which can help you recover much quicker and easier.  Having experience in these areas means these chiropractors can even help you fill out claims and many times won’t charge you until you receive your settlement amount.  They can also refer you to other specialist and doctors if your injury is severe enough.

Visiting a chiropractor can possibly help you recover from whiplash injuries quicker and easier because they are licensed professionals.  Your visits to them should be covered under any agreement with you insurance company dealing with the accident as long as you keep your paperwork in order and properly file the claim.
