Most fiberglass swimming pools are used with salt water pools because of the nature of the materials. Fiberglass, obviously, is not a metal and thus works well with salt. In case you did not know, salt corrodes metals. Therefore, it is a bad idea to make metal salt water pools.
You should choose fiberglass swimming pools because they are easy to care for, inexpensive and lightweight. It has been already stated, but it must be stressed, that in order to use salt in your water you must have a pool that is constructed of non-corroding materials. You must use materials that will not rust. The problem with steel, even stainless steel, is that over time, the coatings will wear away. Rust is always a risk. You want a pool that will last. The beauty of fiberglass is that it is inherently rust free.
Most people like metal pools because they are durable but fiberglass is just as durable as metal. woven fibers guarantee a lot of strength. Unlike aluminum, the fiberglass pool will not rust, yet it is just as lightweight. Again, the advantage is that you can use salt water pools with fiberglass. The big deal about salt water pools is that they are more comfortable and luxurious to use than chlorine pools. There are no strange noxious odors. No need to concern yourself with bleaching caused by the acids. No undue sensitivity due to the chemicals as well.
Another great factor to consider in fiberglass swimming pools are the costs. These pools are relatively inexpensive to other pool designs. The price of metal continues to increase but the supply of fiberglass is nearly limitless. After all, fiberglass is fundamentally glass. And glass is basically silica, or the earth. There is nearly an endless supply of earth of course, at least, when compared to metals. Thus the price of fiberglass is low. Furthermore, the material is lighweight which makes it easier to transport and install, thus saving on shipping and handling costs.
