Whether you have a hard wood deck or a concrete porch, solar powered patio lights offer a diverse range of products to illuminate the space effectively, at much less expense than other options. Some products require simple installation, while others can be place on a hook or other hanging device.

There are so many options available that what you select depends on your decor, how the porch or deck is set up and where illumination is actually needed. Some products simply cover the tops of decking posts, with a couple of screws provided to mount them. Most products fit square posts, but come in a variety of colors or finishes. These are great items for a stairway leading up to a deck.

Wall mount products are also available in different styles. They attach with screws as well. The benefit of these items is that you will not require electrical knowledge for installation and can have them put up very quickly, if you are planning a night time get together or social event. Motion lights are also available to mount to the corner of a house or shed and consist of dual heads, for illumination of a seating area and the path leading to it. This type of product provides additional security, as it comes on automatically when motion is detected.

Some products are designed as lanterns. They can hang from any base, whether it is a hook mounted on the house or railing, or a tall Shepard’s hook place strategically near to porch, in the grassy area. Some models of solar patio lights even come with their own wrought iron stand, which provides an added benefit of moving them quickly. These are very attractive in a variety of styles, such as the old coach lantern look or an oriental flavor, with fireflies on dragon flies on the screens.

For something unique in a seating and entertaining area, there are frosted tables that use this type of illumination, that shine up through the top surface from below. This is a very elegant way of providing light for a surface to place snacks or drinks. Other options include single bulbs with motion sensors, lanterns sets that can either hang or be staked and strings of lights connected to a solar panel, that are similar to strings of small Christmas lights. These are great for outdoor parties and celebrations, as they add a festive glow to the space.

Another option is to use a set of different colored lanterns that resemble Chinese lanterns. Some are white and change colors. If you have a pond or fountain on the deck or porch, a lily pad with a bulb in the center is a great way to draw attention to the feature and create a special place.
