Canon continue their line of successful PIXMA portable printers, with the new Canon PIXMA ip100 an advance model from their previous PIXMA ip90v. This time Canon has extended the number of ink nozzles and doubled the maximum resolution. As a result, several improvements in both print speed and picture quality makes this mobile printer competitive to most laptop printers and even some full-size printers.
Its looks are almost the same as the ip90v. The body has a matte-silver finish with glossy black side panels and paper handling trays that extends out of the body. Its tray can hold up to 50 sheets of paper (20 sheets more than the ip90v). Located on the right side of the printer, it houses an infrared port for connecting to IrMC 1.1-compatible cell phones, a 2.0 Universal Serial Bus port and a PictBridge port for direct printing from adaptable digital cameras.
On the left side of the printer, the main power socket can be found. For a special additional price, Canon will throw in the BU-30. It is a Bluetooth adapter that plugs into a USB port, granting you the ability to print wirelessly from a laptop or any mobile device, very convenient compared to some laptop printers.
Canon PIXMA ip100 keeps the same profile as its predecessor; the internal cartridge system has been completely refurbished. This new mobile printer from Canon bumps up the amount of its total nozzles from 1,088 to 1,856.
It is generally designed for portability. Canon’s PIXMA ip100 mobile printer promises to produce photo lab quality prints although its specifications are more attuned to office printing. It is a four-color printer with separate cartridges for black pigment ink and dye-based colors inks such as cyan, magenta and yellow plus a photo black to improve darker tones in image prints. Canon has claimed that if used with Canon photo papers, the prints will last longer.
Physically, although it is a little bit larger than the previous model Canon PIXMA ip100 is still best suited as a laptop partner. It is one of the best alternatives for bulky laptop printing according to the road warriors and because it comes with a rechargeable battery that clips onto the rear panel.
Setting up the printer is easy and the instructions provided in the quick start manual along with the diagrams on the double-sized A3 that comes with the mobile printer are very easy and effortless to follow.
It also comes with a Software disk that contains drivers for Windows and Macintosh plus a Canon’s Easy-PhotoPrint EX application software. Easy-PhotoPrint EX is a highly automated, wizard-based application that supports few options for user adjustments. Printing with a photo paper plus glossy paper the print quality is almost a match for prints from photo labs.
Canon PIXMA ip100 truly combines an attractive design with flexibility and perfect general performance. Its high-resolution print head can produce astonishing photo and clearer documents prints. Despite its limited capabilities for enthusiast photographers, for an average consumer this Canon PIXMA ip100 can provide most of the functions they require.
