If you are in the market for a pair of the best ruby earrings but don’t know whether to go for gold or silver then this article is for you. We are going to take a look at which precious metal you want to pick for your creation and why. The most popular metals for all jewelry is gold and silver so that’s that the ones we are going to take a look at today.
Yellow gold is what I recommend to ruby jewelry buyers and its not because this is the expensive option, or even because most people value it more from a perceived value perspective. I often tell people to choose the silver option when buying diamonds or sapphires but the truth is that gold just goes better with the deep red color of a quality ruby gemstone. Take a pigeon blood ruby and set it in a yellow gold ring or earring and you will see immediately that the color intensifies. It might cost you more to buy the gold but the effect is well worth the extra expense.
Another reason is that many of the finer rubies have a slightly blue hue to them that is counteracted by the yellow in this precious metal.
There are times when you might want to consider choosing silver however. When you have bought a loose ruby to be made into jewelry and you see that it has a pink hue to it rather then blue then you are allowed to pair is with silver.
One thing to keep in mind is that if you are simply buying a little pair of earrings or a cheap ruby ring for yourself, or as a small gift, then you don’t really have to worry too much about the metal. Just choose the set of earrings or ring that you like most. The rules above are only really relevant to people who are selecting expensive loose rubies that they want to have made into a fine piece of jewelry that will be passed down to the kids.
