Increase Profits With Vehicle Tracking

GPS, or Global Positioning System, has been developed to serve different purposes since its original inception as a way to help the United States military navigate around the globe. In the 1970’s the United States started launching satellites in orbit to establish the GPS system around the world. Who would ever have thought at the time that the system would become so commercialized that it would enable companies to increase their profits by employing vehicle tracking? Sure, we know about how GPS can help you get to unfamiliar locations by establishing a route for you to follow (and re-correcting if you get detoured). And many of us are aware of how parents are using GPS for children to keep track of their kids and keep them out of harm’s way. But vehicle tracking is less well known aspect of the GPS technology even as it provides companies millions of reasons each year to use it.

So why would a company choose to use GPS for vehicle tracking? One reason for its use is that companies can reduce their costs. But how can GPS help with reducing costs? The companies that utilize vehicle tracking keep track of the mileage on each one of their vehicles. As vehicles accumulate more miles on them, they tend to break down and will not be in service. Vehicle manufacturers therefore have recommended services that are performed at mileage intervals. By keeping track of the mileage on the entire fleet of vehicles, the company can perform the just in time maintenance on a vehicle in order to keep it in service.

Another reason for using vehicle tracking is increased revenue. By being able to instantly see exactly where the truck is, a shipping company can provide the client with an accurate ETA of the shipment. Customers will be more likely to use a company that can provide them with accurate shipping dates and times than a shipping company that cannot.
